Delusions at 12 Kilometers (2021)
for Solo Bb Clarinet (5’)
A great deal of this work was the culmination of several days of sleep deprivation (any success of which was caught on a concrete floor), a bad moving situation, and several flights from a few years ago. I was on my final flight back home from this rather rough journey and decided to pull out my sketch book. I get a few notes in when I start to experience what I assumed to be my first true migraine. After figuring out that I was not dying, I decided to go on with writing. With most of the work being conceived during this time, a great deal of its gestures/materials convey a bit of how I felt throughout the flight. This includes everything from the splitting headaches, to me wishing I was old enough to purchase the inflight alcohol service to hopefully numb the headaches.
